This note is to provide residents with an update about the landslip on Hoarwithy Road. The Parish Council is very aware of the concerns expressed by many residents, particularly with regard to the urgency to get the road open before the increase in traffic in coming months.
The Parish Council has been working closely with our Ward Councillor, David Davies, to try and get the road opened as soon as possible. The recent move of the end date for the road closure to the 24th December is not indicative of when the road will be cleared but a legal requirement that Highways has to go through to formally close the road.
It is unclear why limited headway seemed to be made over recent months. However, progress now appears to be gathering pace and the email from Ed Bradford of Herefordshire Highways (attached) provides a few more details.
We hope that more specific news can be shared shortly.
It is understood that clearing of the road will likely happen in two stages. Firstly, the loose boulders on the bank (and road) will need to be removed. At that point, a determination can be made of what further stabilisation of the bank will be necessary (if any). A decision can also then be made of whether it is safe to reopen the road, with barriers or traffic lights etc.
